The Enigma of Loch Ness: Making Sense of a Mystery is a detailed investigation into the history and enduring mystery of the Loch Ness Monster. Henry H. Bauer examines hundreds of reported sightings, photographs and claims about “Nessie”, while looking beyond simply trying to prove or disprove the creature’s existence. He explores the psychological, sociological and scientific reasons why people believe in mysterious phenomena and considers what the Loch Ness controversy reveals about the way people evaluate evidence and how science responds to ideas outside the mainstream. Drawing on more than a decade of research and including a large collection of sightings and historical material, the book offers a thoughtful and balanced look at one of the world's most famous mysteries.
