In May 2009, just a few months after returning from Iraq, young soldier Damien Patchett takes his own life with a revolver during a walk. His father, Bennett Patchett, suspects there is something suspicious behind his son's death and hires private investigator Charlie Parker to look into it. Strangely, on the same day, a police officer is found dead beside the burned ruins of the sinister Blue Moon bar. As Parker investigates, he discovers that Patchett was part of a group of disillusioned veterans who frequently crossed the border between Maine and Canada—an area known not only for drug trafficking, but also for the smuggling of alcohol, people, and money. Meanwhile, a mysterious elderly man, ill but capable of ruthless violence, is making his way toward Maine seeking revenge. Charlie Parker will need the help of his friends Louis and Angel, yet even then he must confront a being he fears more than any other.
